Register yourself at the Park Security, before you start walking. And sign out after you have returned.

Tree Top Tower
Duration: 10 min.

In a 10 minute walk from the Park Office you will find the Tree Top Tower. After you have climbed to the top of this 30 meter high tower, you have got a wide view over the tops of the huge trees. If you are lucky you can even spot some wildlife, like squirrels and different species of tropical birds. In December-January you even have the chance to see hornbills or macaques, which feed themselves with the fruit in the trees during this so-called fruit season or "fruiting season".

The tower is always locked, so if you want to visit the tower, do not forgot to get the key from the Park office. Deposit key MYR 50 / € 10.

Mulu Botanical Heritage Trail
Distance: 1.5 km.

For 1.5km, this walk takes you along the most interesting plants which grow in Gunung Mulu National Park. Along the way there are several information boards on which you can read more information about the different plants and how the rainforest actually works.

Kenyalang Loop
Distance: 2.5 km / Duration: 1 hour.

The Kenyalang Loop is a walk of 2.5km along a different piece of rainforest, which is located further away from the often walked Rainforest Discovery Walk. The walk can be found near the Deer & Lang Cave and therefore can be combined easily with a visit to these show caves or with watching the Bat Exodus.

Paku waterfall
Distance: 6 km return / Duration: 2-3 hours.

From the Park Office you will walk over a 1.3km boardwalk in the direction of the Deer & Lang Cave, after which you descent to further follow the marked path. While you walk through the rainforest you will look for birds, insects and different types of ferns. Once arrived at the Paku waterfall you can take a refreshing swim in the Paku rivir. If you would like to see more of the rainforest, you can extend the walk with the Paku Valley Loop.

During the walk it can be very muddy and you need to cross a few rivers of which the water may rise quickly after heavy rainfall. So be careful!

Paku Valley Loop
Distance: 8 km / Duration: 3-4 hours.

A 8 km long walk across the rainforest and ideal for spotting birth, insects and all kinds of ferns or fungi. The Paku Valley Loop also comes along the Paku Falls, so do not forget to bring your swimwear for a refreshing swim in the Paku River.

Mulu Canopy Skywalk
Distance: 480m / Duration: 2 hours.

The guide will take you along to the longest canopy walk in the world. At a height of 20 meters and for 480m, you will walk on long rope bridges between the meter-high trees and across a small river, while you look out for flowers, ferns, monkeys, squirrels and birds.

Daily at 07.00h (07.00am), 08.30h (08.30am), 10.00h (10.00am), 10.30h (10.30am), 13.00h (01.00pm) and 14.00h (02.00pm).

Night walk
Distance: 1.5 km / Duration: 2 hours.

As soon as it is getting dark, the jungle comes to life. Armed with a torch you step into the dark rainforest for a night walk. During the night walk you will walk over a 1.5km boardwalk and together with your guide you will search for the most special animals and insects. From stick insects to spiders and from various caterpillars to fire flies. The one insect even more colorful than the other and from small to large.

If it rains the tour can be delayed for 30 minutes or the tour will be cancelled. If the tour is cancelled, you will receive a refund the next day.

Daily at 19.00h (07.00pm) and 19.30h (07.30pm).

In Mulu National Park, more than 295km of cave systems have been investigated, yet only five caves have been opened as so-called show caves. The show caves cannot be visited on your own occasion, but only with a guide.

Deer & Lang Cave
Duration: 3 hours.

After a walk of about 45 minutes through the rainforest over a boardwalk you arrive at Deer Cave and the Lang Cave. At first you will visit the smallest cave of all the show caves, the Lang Cave. Once you have entered via the special shaped entrance, you will see stalactites, stalagmites and various other types of limestone all around you.

About 150m further lies the Deer Cave. This 1km long cave has not only got the second largest passage in the world (after Sơn Đoòng Cave in Vietnam), but it is also the home of 12 species of bats. When you walk over the boardwalk in the huge cave you will not only hear the 2-3 million bats, but you will definitely smell them. In the cave there are mountains of guano, or bat poop. So be prepared for a little surprise while you walk through the cave or try to hold on to the railing.

As soon as you get out of the cave, you will start waiting for the bat exodus at a specially designed lookout place. Almost every day, when it is not raining and between 17.00-19.00h (05.00-07.00pm), millions of bats fly out of the Deer Cave in various formations, feeding themselves with up to 15 tons of flying insects. A spectacle you should not miss!

After the bat exodus it is time to walk back to the Park office. When you walk back it will already be dark and if you are lucky you will spot fire flies along the way or other residents of the rainforest which come to life at night!

The Fastlane (Lagang Cave)
Duration: 3 hours.

After a boat ride, a short walk through the rainforest and climbing a number of steps, you arrive at the entrance of the Lagang Cave.

In comparison to the other caves, in this cave only a few points are lit. So you will mainly discover the cave with a torch. During a 1.5km walk in the cave you will pass beautiful formations and large passageways, which can be found at the bottom of the cave and hanging on the ceiling of the cave. You also have the chance to spot the residents of the cave, like the Blue Racer snake, spiders, bats, crickets and white crabs.

Daily at 14.00h (02.00pm). Maximum 12 participants.

Cave of the winds & Clearwater Cave
Duration: 4 hours.

At the Park Office you will board a traditional longboat and you will travel to Batu Bungan, a Penan village which is located next to the Melinau river. Here you can experience how the inhabitants of the rainforest live and if you want you can buy some souvenirs at the Penan longhouse market, which have been made by the inhabitants themselves.

They will also show you a so-called blow pipe, made of wood. An object which was used first during wars between tribes, but was used during hunting after that. The darts are provided with an anesthetic and then shot to numb and catch preys. If you dare, you can try a blow pipe yourself, by shooting at a wooden board!

After that, the longboat will bring you to the Cave of the Winds: a cave where once a river was flowing through. And like the name suggests, you will feel a little breeze inside the cave. And with the high humidity in Mulu National Park this is really nice! Via the dry river and a 350m long boardwalk you will arrive in a chamber full of stalagmites and limestone columns, the 'Kings Chamber'.

After that you will walk to the neighboring Clearwater Cave. With a length of 222km the 8th tallest cave in the world and part of the largest cave system in the world, based on volume. After you have climbed the 200 stairs, you will directly see the clear underground river streaming, which reaches the cave after 180km. Via boardwalks you will walk through various chambers with stalactites, stalagmites and sometimes huge openings covered with beautiful vegetation.

After your visit to the Clearwater Cave you have the possibility to swim in the crystal clear water which flows straight from the cave. On request you will be brought back to the Park Office by longboat.

Daily at 08.45h (08.45am) and 09.15h (09.15am). On Sunday the market is closed.
MYR 65 / € 13 per person including guide and transport by boat.

If you are looking for some more adventure after visiting one or more show caves, there are also a number of caves in Mulu National Park, which you can discover climbing and scrambling. As a true speleologist, provided with a helmet and torch, you will start exploring. There are various adventure caving tours for both inexperienced and experienced adventurers. Also called caving or speleology. The minimum participation is 3 persons and all tours must be booked in advance.

Lagang Cave - intermediate level
Duration: 3-4 hours.

At the Park Office you will get into a longboat. After a 15 minute boat ride and a 10 minutes walk you will arrive at the Lagang Cave. Because there is no climbing involved during a visit to the Lagang Cave, this tour is ideal for families, if you do not have any experience with caving or if you are not keen on crawling through narrow passages.

Together with the guide you will walk along the old riverbed and climb over rocks, while you are exploring the cave with your torch and look out for stalactites and stalagmites.

MYR 160 / € 32 per person. The minimum age to participate is 12 years.

Racer Cave - intermediate level
Duration: 2,5-3,5 hours.

After a 25-minute boat ride you are at the start of your expedition through the Racer Cave. Climbing and descending, using ropes, sometimes clambering over a few stones, you will work your way trough the Racer Cave, together with the guide. Having a slightly strong upper body or good physical condition is really handy. You will be looking for the Racer Snake, who has learned to catch a bird and / or bat from the sky as soon as it flies along. And you will be amazed about the different animals and insects of which their appearance is adapted in such a way that they can live and survive in this underground world.

MYR 160 / € 32 per person. The minimum age to participate is 12 years.

Clearwater Revival - intermediate level
Duration: 4-5 hours.

At the Clearwater Revival you will leave the boardwalk of the Clearwater Cave and you will step into the cool, clear water of the river which flows through the cave. Depending on the water level, you will walk, swim and climb to parts of the cave, which are normally only visited by advanced speleologists. You will make your way back via the same way. For this tour it is required that you are able to swim, are in good physical condition and that your wear closed shoes. Do not forget to bring your waterproof camera, a dry-bag, lunch and a torch!

Please bear in mind that if the water level in the cave is too high after heavy rainfall, the tour will be cancelled.

MYR 220 / € 44 per person including longboat. The minimum age for participation is 12 years.

Garden of Eden Valley Walk - intermediate level
Duration: full day.

A tour that will definitely make you dirty and for which you absolutely must be able to swim. Wearing your oldest clothes and good hiking shoes, you start at the Deer Cave looking for the enclosed Garden of Eden Valley.

From the Garden of Eden pool you will go hiking and swimming through the Eden River to hiking trails that wind through the valley. On which, along the way, you will pass a series of waterfalls and rock pools. You will return the same way and the guide will then take you for a visit to the Lang Cave.

After you have seen the millions of bats flying out of the Deer Cave during the bat exodus, if it is not raining, you will walk back to the Park Office through the rainforest.

Please bear in mind that if the water level in the cave is too high after heavy rainfall, the tour will be cancelled.

Daily at 09.30h (09.30am).
MYR 120 / € 24 per person including guide. The minimum age to participate is 12 years.

If you would like to combine the Garden of Eden Valley Walk with a visit to Deer & Lang Cave, this is possible free of charge.

Clearwater connection - advance level
Distance: 4.8 km / Duration: 6-8 hours.

The Clearwater Connection is a 4.8 km long trip and starts in the Cave of the Winds. During 6-8 hours you will be surrounded by rugged terrain, climbing over boulders, descending via muddy slopes and will you swim regularly through an underground river. On the more risky sections there are fixed ropes and is the guide there to help you with the climbing work (possibly with extra ropes). Especially the last 1.5 km, which goes through the underground river, seems to be the most impressive part!

NOTE: The Clearwater Revival is only bookable for travelers who have experience with caving and must also be able to demonstrate this. Check the terms on the website of Mulu NP. In addition, it is required that you can swim.

Please bear in mind that if the water level in the cave is too high after heavy rainfall, the tour will be cancelled.

MYR 225 / € 45 per person. The minimum age to participate is 16 years.

Sarawak Chamber Overnight at Camp 1 - advance level
Duration: 2 days / 1 night.

This tour is even challenging for experienced speleologists and for visitors with a good fitness. After a 3 hour trail, you reach the entrance to Gua Nasib Bagus (Good Luck Cave). If the water level is safe, from here you will follow a river channel for 900m, of which the rock walls are sometimes 50m high.

As soon as you reach the end of the river, you will make a crossing of 200 meters by means of fixed ropes and a steep stone slope you will arrive in the world's largest underground room: the Sarawak Chamber. This room is 600 meter long, 435 meter wide and up to 115 meters high. To get an idea: according to calculations, you could park 40 Boeing 747 airplanes in this chamber. The tour ends at the entrance of the chamber, after which you will spend the night at Camp 1.

When at the entrance of the Good Luck Cave appears that the water level in the cave is too high, the tour will be canceled. As a result, you will return to the headquarters or you will be offered an alternative cave experience.

NOTE: The Sarawak Chamber Overnight is only bookable for travelers who have experience with caving and should also be able to demonstrate this. Check the terms on the website of Mulu NP.
In addition, it is required that you can swim.

MYR 310 / € 62 per person including guide and camping surcharge. The minimum age to participate is 16 years.

The Pinnacles
Distance: 22.8 km return. Duration: 3 days, 2 nights

Besides the many caves, the Pinnacles are also a reason for travelers to visit Gunung Mulu National Park. These 45-50m high sharp limestone peaks are located halfway between Gunung Api and can only be seen after a tough 5 to 10 hour hike (depending on your condition).

The tour starts relatively easy with a 1-2 hour boat ride over the Melinau River to Kuala Litut (departure at 09.15h / 09.15am). From here you will walk to Camp 5 over relatively flat terrain for about 3 hours, where you will meet your guide and will stay overnight. Camp 5 offers basic accommodation with sanitary facilities, kitchens, a dining room and 5 bedrooms including sleeping mats.

After a good night of sleep, you will leave for the Pinnacles the following morning at 07:00h (07.00am). The walk is only 2.4km long, but you will climb as much as 1200m in height. On the way you will already see the Pinnacles and will walk through a forested area with all sorts of rare orchids and plants.

The last part of the trip is almost vertical and will you climb by using ropes and ladders. When you are very fit and experienced you will reach the top in 2-3 hours or else in about 4-5 hours. Once at the top your  performance will be rewarded and you can enjoy the view of the Pinnacles, the rocks and the green surroundings.

After you have been able to rest for a while with a view of the Pinnacles, you start your 5-hour descent to Camp 5. Once back at Camp 5 you can have a rest from your climb and will you spend the night at Camp 5. The following morning, around 07.00-08.00h (07.00-08.00am) you will start to walk back to Kuala Litut. Here the boat will pick you up at 11.00h (11.00am) and will bring you back to the Park Office.

Important!

• The climb to the Pinnacles will only continue if the weather permits. Plan extra days, so that you will still be able to do the hike, if the tour is cancelled due to bad weather.
• When you cannot reach the mini-Pinnacles within 1 hour (on your way to the top), your fitness is not sufficient to make your way to the Pinnacles in a safe way. At that point, the guide will send you back to Camp 5, to guarantee your safety.
• If you want to depart on the last day of your Pinnacles adventure, it is not possible to catch the first flight from Mulu. It is therefore advisable to take the second flight or to spend an extra night in Mulu to have a good rest.

Essentials for the tour to the Pinnacles:

• Essential to carry: lightweight sleeping bag or blanket, food (2x breakfast, 2x lunch, 2x dinner), steady walking shoes, rubber shoes (for pushing the boat), insect spray, first aid kit, personal medication, toiletries, torch with spare batteries, raincoat, towel.
• For the climb: a small backpack, snacks, lunch and 2 water bottles (of which you will leave one halfway the for your way back).
• Optional: a mosquito net, inflateable pillow, sandals for use in the bathroom and gloves (because of the sharp rocks).
• At Camp 5 you have the possibility to buy snacks and soft drinks, so do not forget to bring some cash.

This tour must be pre-booked an the minimum number of participants is 3 persons. The minimum age to participate is 16 years.

MYR 415 / € 83 per person is including: guide, 2 nights accommodation at camp 5 and a return by long boat.
MYR 135 / € 27 per porter including entrance, 2 nights accommodation (max. weight of 17,5kg).
MYR 30 / € 6 per person surcharge for a visit to Cave of the Winds & the Clearwater Cave.

When there are less than 3 participants, the rate will be recalculated. If you wish to cancel the tour, because of the price increase, this is possible free of charge. Check the conditions at the Park Office.

Mulu Summit Walk
Distance: 24 km / Duration: minimum 4 days / 3 nights.

If you still have 4 days left and you are in good physical condition, you can consider a tour to the top of Gunung Mulu. A tour of 24km to the top at 2377m and for which you need a minimum of 4 days and 3 nights. It is therefore the most difficult activity you can do in Gunung Mulu National Park.

The tour starts from the Park Office at a height of 40 meters above sea level and finally climbs to 2377m. On your way you will be treated regularly to nice views on the rainforest. During the tour you will stay at Camp 1, 3 and 4. The huts are equipped with sanitary amenities and facilities to cook. You can buy the gas cartridges for the use of the gas stove at the Park Café.

Daily schedule:

• Day 1: After breakfast you start the tour to Camp 3. A day on which you will be climbing for 6-8 hours.
• Day 2: This is a short day on which you will walk to Camp 4 in about 4 hours. Here you will spend the night.
• Day 3: After an early breakfast you will start your climb to the top, a tour of about 5-6 hours return. After lunch you will start the 4 hour decent to Camp 3, to spend the night.
• Day 4: A 6 hour walk brings you back to the headquarters of the park around 13.00-14.00h (01.00-02.00pm).

Essentials for the Summit Trail:

You need to take care yourself for the necessary gear for this tour. Think about enough food and drinks, a raincoat, torch, first aid kit, personal medication, sleeping mat, sleeping bag etc.

Also take into account the weight of your backpack and only take the most necessary with you. You can also chose to hire a porter, which can carry (a part of) your baggage till a maximum of 15 kg.

You need to book this tour in advance. The minimum age for participation is 16 years. Minimum number of participants is 3 / maximum number is 15 participants (including guides and porters).

MYR 650 / € 129 per person including guide and camping surcharge.

Tree Top Tower
Duur: 10 min.

Op 10 minuten lopen van het Park office vind je de Tree Top Tower. Nadat je naar de top bent geklommen van deze 30 meter hoge toren, heb je een weids uitzicht over de toppen van de enorme bomen. Als je geluk hebt kan je wildlife spotten, zoals eekhoorns en diverse tropische vogels. In december-januari heb je zelfs de kans om neushoornvogels of makaken te zien, welke gedurende het zogeheten fruitseizoen zich tegoed doen aan het fruit in de bomen. Dit wordt ook wel het "fruiting season" genoemd.

De toren zit standaard op slot, dus mocht je de toren willen bezoeken, vergeet dan niet de sleutel op te halen bij het Park office. Deposit sleutel MYR 50 / € 10.

Mulu Botanical Heritage Trail
Afstand: 1,5 km.

Deze wandeling neemt je 1,5 km lang mee langs de meeste interessante planten die voorkomen in Gunung Mulu National Park. Onderweg kan je op de diverse informatieborden meer lezen over de diverse planten en hoe het regenwoud nu precies werkt.

Kenyalang Loop
Afstand: 2,5 km / Duur: 1 uur.

De Kenyalang Loop is een rondje van 2,5 km langs een ander stuk regenwoud, welke wat verder weg ligt van de veel belopen Rainforest Discovery Walk. De wandeling vind je in de buurt van de Deer & Lang Cave en is dan ook prima te combineren met een tour door deze showgrotten of met het aanschouwen van de Bat Exodus.

Paku waterval
Afstand: 6 km retour / Duur: 2-3 uur.

Vanuit het Park Office loop je 1,3 km over een boardwalk in de richting van de Deer & Lang Cave, waarna je afdaalt om het gemarkeerde pad verder te volgen. Al wandelende door het regenwoud ga je op zoek naar vogels, insecten en diverse soorten varens. Eenmaal aangekomen bij de Paku waterval kan je een verfrissende duik nemen in de Paku rivier. Mocht je nog meer van het regenwoud willen zien, dan kan je de wandeling uitbreiden met de Paku Valley Loop.

Tijdens de wandeling kan het erg modderig zijn en zal je een aantal riviertjes moeten oversteken, waarvan het water na een fikse regenbui snel kan stijgen. Wees dus voorzichtig!

Paku Valley Loop
Afstand: 8 km / Duur: 3-4 uur.

Een 8 km lange wandeling dwars door het regenwoud en ideaal voor het spotten van vogels, insecten en allerhande soorten varens of zwammen. De Paku Valley Loop komt ook langs de Paku waterval, dus vergeet vooral je zwemkleding niet mee te nemen voor een verkoelende plons in de Paku rivier.

Mulu Canopy Skywalk
Afstand: 480m / Duur: 2 uur.

De gids neemt je mee naar 's werelds langste canopy walk. Op 20 meter hoogte loop je 480 meter via touwbruggen tussen de toppen van metershoge bomen en over een riviertje, terwijl je uitkijkt naar bloemen, varens, apen, eekhoorns en vogels.

Dagelijks om 07.00u, 08.30u, 10.00u, 10.30u, 13.00u en 14.00u.

Nightwalk
Afstand: 1,5 km / Duur: 2 uur.

Zodra het gaat schemeren komt de jungle tot leven. Gewapend met een zaklamp stap je het donkere regenwoud in voor een night walk. De wandeling gaat over een 1,5 km lange boardwalk en samen met de gids ga je op zoek naar de meest bijzondere dieren en insecten. Van wandelende takken tot spinnen en van diverse rupsen tot vuurvliegjes. Het ene insect is nog kleurrijker dan de andere en van klein tot groot.

Indien het regent kan de tour 30 minuten worden vertraagd of zal de tour uiteindelijk worden geannuleerd. Je ontvangt dan de volgende dag een restitutie.

Dagelijks om 19.00u en 19.30u. MYR 22 / € 4.50 per persoon inclusief gids.

In Mulu National Park is er ruim 295km aan grottenstelsels onderzocht, maar toch is er slechts een vijftal grotten geopend als zogenaamde showgrotten. De grotten zijn niet op eigen houtje te bezoeken, maar alleen onder begeleiding van een gids.

Deer & Lang Cave
Duur: 3 uur.

Na een wandeling van zo'n 45 minuten door het regenwoud over een boardwalk kom je aan bij de Deer Cave en de Lang Cave. Als eerste bezoek je de kleinste van alle showcaves, de Lang Cave. Nadat je eenmaal via de bijzonder gevormde ingang naar binnen bent gelopen, zie je overal om je heen stalactieten, stalagmieten en diverse andere vormen van kalksteen.

Een kleine 150m verder ligt de Deer Cave. Niet alleen heeft deze meer dan 1km lange grot de op 1 na grootste passage ter wereld (na de Sơn Đoòng Cave in Vietnam), maar het is ook het thuis van 12 soorten vleermuizen. Al rondlopende over de boardwalk in de enorme grot zal je de 2-3 miljoen vleermuizen niet alleen horen, maar ook zeker ruiken. In de grot liggen namelijk enorme bergen guano, oftewel vleermuizenpoep. Het lopen door de grot of het vastpakken van een reling kan dan ook een onaangename verrassing opleveren.

Zodra je buiten komt is het wachten op de bat exodus op een speciaal hiervoor ingerichte uitkijkplaats. Wanneer het niet regent, komen er (dagelijks) tussen 17.00u en 19.00u miljoenen vleermuizen in diverse formaties naar buiten gevlogen, zich ondertussen voedend met maar liefst 15 ton rondvliegende insecten. Een schouwspel wat je zeker niet mag missen!

Na de bat exodus is het tijd om terug te lopen naar het Park office. Het is dan inmiddels ook al donker geworden en als je geluk hebt spot je onderweg nog vuurvliegjes of andere bewoners van het regenwoud die 's avonds tot leven komen!

Dagelijks om 14.00u en 14.30u.

The Fastlane (Lagang Cave)
Duur: 3 uur.

Na een tocht per boot, een korte wandeling door het regenwoud en het beklimmen van een aantal trappen, sta je bij de ingang van de Lagang Cave.

In vergelijking met de andere grotten zijn in deze grot slechts een paar punten verlicht en ontdek je de grot vooral met een zaklamp. Tijdens een 1,5km lange wandeling in de grot kom je langs prachtige formaties en grote doorgangen, welke zijn te vinden op de bodem van de grot en hangende aan het plafond van de grot. Ook heb je de kans om een aantal inwoners van de grot te spotten, zoals de blauwe Racer slang, spinnen, vleermuizen, krekels en witte krabben.

Dagelijks om 14.00u. Maximaal 12 personen.

Cave of the winds & Clearwater Cave
Duur: 4 uur.

Bij het Park Office stap je in een traditionele longboat en vaar je naar een aan de Melinau rivier gelegen Penan dorp: Batu Bungan. Hier krijg je een goed idee van hoe de inwoners in het regenwoud wonen en kan je op de Penan longhouse market eventueel wat souvenirs kopen die door de lokale inwoners zelf zijn gemaakt.

Ook laat men zien hoe een zogeheten blow pipe (blaaspijp) van hout wordt gemaakt. Een voorwerp welke eerst werd gebruikt tijdens oorlogen tussen stammen, maar welke sindsdien wordt gebruikt tijdens de jacht. De pijltjes worden voorzien van een verdovend middel en afgeschoten op prooien om hen op deze manier te verdoven en te kunnen vangen. Mocht je het aandurven, dan kan je een blow pipe ook zelf nog even op een houten bord uitproberen!

De longboat brengt je vervolgens naar de Cave of the Winds, een grot waar ooit een rivier doorheen liep. En zoals de naam al doet vermoeden voel je eenmaal in de grot een aangenaam briesje. Met de hoge luchtvochtigheid in Mulu National Park is dat zeker geen straf! Via de droogstaande rivier en een 350m lange boardwalk kom je uiteindelijk uit in een kamer vol stalagmieten en zuilen van kalksteen, de 'Kings Chamber'.

Daarna loop je door naar de naastgelegen Clearwater Cave, met 222km lengte de 8e langste grot ter wereld en onderdeel van 's werelds grootste grottenstelsel op basis van volume. Nadat je de 200 trappen hebt beklommen zie je direct de heldere ondergrondse rivier stromen, die hier na 180km uitkomt. Via boardwalks loop je door diverse kamers met stalactieten, stalagmieten en met soms enorme openingen die rijkelijk zijn begroeid.

Na afloop van je bezoek aan de Clearwater Cave kan je nog even zwemmen in het kristalheldere water dat rechtstreeks uit de grot stroomt en wordt je op verzoek weer per longboat teruggebracht naar het Park office.

Dagelijks om 08.45u en 09.15u. Op zondag is de markt gesloten.
MYR 65 / € 13 per persoon inclusief gids en vervoer per boot.

Mocht je na het bezoeken van een of meerdere showgrotten op zoek zijn naar wat meer avontuur, dan zijn er in Mulu National Park ook een aantal grotten welke je al klimmend en klauterend kan ontdekken. Voorzien van een helm en zaklamp ga je als een ware speleoloog op verkenning en zijn er zowel voor de onervaren als de ervaren avonturiers diverse adventure caving tours. Ook wel speleologie genoemd. De minimale deelname is 3 personen en alle tours dien je op voorhand te boeken.

Lagang Cave - gemiddeld niveau
Duur: 3-4 uur.
Bij het Park Office stap je in een longboat die je in 15 minuten, met nog een 10 minuten durende wandeling naar de Lagang Cave brengt. Omdat er tijdens een bezoek aan de Lagang Cave niet wordt geklommen, is deze tour ideaal voor families, als je nog geen ervaring hebt met het avontuurlijk bezoeken van grotten of het niet echt ziet zitten om door nauwe doorgangen te moeten kruipen.

Samen met de gids loop je tijdens deze tour langs de oude rivierbedding en klauter je over rotsen, terwijl je met je zaklamp de grot onderzoekt en uitkijkt naar stalactieten en stalagmieten.

MYR 160 / € 32 per persoon.De minimale leeftijd voor deelname is 12 jaar.

Racer Cave - gemiddeld niveau
Duur: 2,5-3,5 uur.
Na een boottocht van 25 minuten sta je aan de start van je expeditie door de Racer Cave. Al klimmend en afdalend, met behulp van touwen, soms al klauterend over een paar stenen, baan je je samen met de gids een weg door de Racer Cave. Het hebben van een enigszins sterk bovenlichaam of goede conditie is in deze ook zeker handig. Je gaat op zoek naar de Racer slang, die heeft geleerd om zijn volgende vogel en/of vleermuis maaltijd zo uit de lucht te vissen als deze voorbij vliegt. En je zal je verbazen over de verschillende dieren en insecten die qua uiterlijk zo zijn aangepast dat zij kunnen (over)leven in deze ondergrondse wereld.

MYR 160 / € 32 per persoon.De minimale leeftijd voor deelname is 12 jaar.

Clearwater Revival - gemiddeld niveau
Duur: 4-5 uur.
Bij de Clearwater Revival verlaat je de boardwalk van de Clearwater Cave en stap je in het koele, heldere water van de rivier die door de grot loopt. Afhankelijk van hoe hoog het water staat ga je al lopend, zwemmend en klimmend naar delen van de grot waar normaliter alleen de gevorderde speleologen komen. Via dezelfde weg kom je vervolgens ook weer terug.Voor deze tour wordt dan ook vereist dat je kan zwemmen, in redelijke conditie bent en dichte schoenen draagt. Vergeet niet om je waterproof camera, een drybag, lunch en een zaklamp mee te nemen!

Houdt er rekening mee dat indien de hoogte van het water in de grot te hoog is door hevige regenval, de tour zal worden geannuleerd.

MYR 220 / € 44 per persoon inclusief longboat.De minimale leeftijd voor deelname is 12 jaar.

Garden of Eden Valley Walk - gemiddeld niveau
Duur: volle dag.
Een tour waarbij je zeker vies gaat worden en absoluut moet kunnen zwemmen. Voorzien van je meest oude kleding en goede wandelschoenen ga je startende bij de Deer Cave op zoek naar de ingesloten Garden of Eden vallei.

Vanaf de Garden of Eden pool ga je al lopend en zwemmend via de Eden rivier naar wandelroutes die door de vallei kronkelen. Waarbij je onderweg langs een reeks watervallen en rockpools komt. Via dezelfde weg kom je vervolgens ook weer terug en neemt de gids je nog mee voor een bezoek aan de Lang Cave.

Nadat je, indien het niet regent, de miljoenen vleermuizen hebt zien uitvliegen tijdens de bat exodus bij de Deer Cave, keer je al wandelend door het regenwoud terug naar het Park Office.

Houdt er rekening mee dat indien de hoogte van het water in de grot te hoog is door hevige regenval, de tour zal worden geannuleerd.

Dagelijks om 09.30u.
MYR 120 / € 24 per persoon inclusief gids. De minimale leeftijd voor deelname is 12 jaar.

Indien je de Garden of Eden Valley Walk wil combineren met een bezoek aan de Deer & Lang Cave, dan is dit kosteloos mogelijk.

Clearwater connection - gevorderd niveau
Afstand: 4,8 km / Duur: 6-8 uur.
De Clearwater Connection is een 4,8 km lange trip en begint in de Cave of the Winds. Gedurende 6-8 uur begeef je je op ruig terrein, klim je over rotsblokken, daal je af via modderige hellingen en zwem je met enige regelmaat door een ondergrondse rivier.Op de wat gewaagdere gedeeltes zijn er vaste touwen aanwezig en is de gids er (eventueel nog met extra touwen) om je te helpen met het klimwerk. Vooral de laatste 1,5 km, welke via de ondergrondse rivier gaat, schijnt het meest indrukwekkend te zijn!

LET OP: de Clearwater Revival is alleen boekbaar voor reizigers die ervaring met speleologie hebben en moeten dit ook kunnen aantonen. Check voor de voorwaarden de website van Mulu NP.
Daarnaast is het vereist dat je kan zwemmen.

Houdt er rekening mee dat indien de hoogte van het water in de grot te hoog is, de tour zal worden geannuleerd.

MYR 225 / € 45 per persoon. De minimale leeftijd voor deelname is 16 jaar.

Sarawak Chamber Overnight at Camp 1 - gevorderd niveau
Duur: 2 dagen / 1 nacht.
Deze tour is zelfs voor ervaren speleologen en bezoekers met een goede conditie een uitdaging.Na een trail van 3 uur bereik je de ingang van Gua Nasib Bagus (Good Luck Cave). Vanaf hier volg je, bij een veilige waterstand, voor 900m een rivierkanaal, waarvan de rotswanden soms wel 50m hoog zijn.

Zodra je het einde van de rivier bereikt maak je door middel van vaste touwen een oversteek van zo'n 200 meter en kom je via een steile stenen helling uit in 's werelds grootste ondergrondse kamer: de Sarawak Chamber. Deze kamer is maar liefst 600 meter lang, 435 meter breed en maximaal 115 meter hoog. Om je een voorstelling te kunnen maken: volgens berekeningen zou men hier wel 40 Boeing 747 vliegtuigen kunnen parkeren.De tour eindigt bij de ingang van de kamer, waarna je de nacht doorbrengt bij Camp 1.

Wanneer bij de ingang van de Good Luck Cave blijkt dat het water in de grot te hoog staat, zal de tour worden geannuleerd. Hierop zal je terugkeren naar het hoofdkwartier of wordt er een alternatieve grottenervaring aangeboden.

LET OP: de Sarawak Chamber Overnight is alleen boekbaar voor reizigers die ervaring met speleologie hebben en moeten dit ook kunnen aantonen. Check voor de voorwaarden de website van Mulu NP.
Daarnaast is het vereist dat je kan zwemmen.

MYR 310 / € 62 per persoon inclusief gids en kampeertoeslag. De minimale leeftijd voor deelname is 16 jaar.

The Pinnacles
Afstand: 22,8 km retour/ Duur: 3 dagen, 2 nachten

Naast de vele grotten zijn ook de Pinnacles een reden dat reizigers een bezoek brengen aan Gunung Mulu National Park. Deze 45-50m hoge scherpe pieken van kalksteen liggen halverwege Gunung Api en kan je alleen zien na een pittige tocht van 5-10 uur (afhankelijk van je conditie).

De tocht start relatief makkelijk met om 09.15u een boottocht van 1-2 uur over de Melinau rivier naar Kuala Litut. Vanaf hier wandel je in ongeveer 3 uur over relatief vlak terrein naar Camp 5, waar je kennismaakt met je gids en ook zal overnachten. Camp 5 biedt basis accommodatie met sanitaire voorzieningen, keukens, een eetkamer en 5 slaapkamers inclusief slaapmatten.

Na een goede nachtrust vertrek je de volgende ochtend om 07.00u richting de Pinnacles. De wandeling ernaartoe is slechts 2,4km lang, maar je stijgt maar liefst 1200 meter in hoogte. Onderweg kijk je uit op de Pinnacles en loop je door een bebost gebied met allerhande zeldzame orchideeën en planten.

Het laatste deel van de tocht gaat vrijwel verticaal omhoog en zal je beklimmen met behulp van touwen en ladders. Wanneer je erg fit en ervaren bent zal je de top in 2-3 uur bereiken of anders in zo'n 4-5 uur. Eenmaal boven wordt je prestatie beloond en kan je genieten van het uitzicht op de Pinnacles, de rotsen en de groene omgeving.

Nadat je, met uitzicht op de Pinnacles, even hebt kunnen uitrusten start je aan je minimaal 5 uur durende afdaling richting Camp 5. Eenmaal terug bij Camp 5 kan je bijkomen van je klim en breng je nog een nachtje door in Camp 5. De volgende ochtend rond 07.00-08.00u zal je starten aan je wandeling terug naar Kuala Litut. Hier zal de boot je rond 11.00u ophalen en je terugbrengen naar het Park Office.

Belangrijk!

• De klim naar de Pinnacles gaat alleen door indien het weer het toelaat. Plan eventueel extra dagen in, zodat je de tocht alsnog kan maken, mocht deze vanwege het slechte weer worden verzet.
• Wanneer je op weg naar de top de mini-Pinnacles niet binnen 1 uur kan bereiken, is je conditie onvoldoende om de tocht naar de Pinnacles op een verantwoorde manier te halen. De gids zal je, om je eigen veiligheid te kunnen garanderen, op dat moment terugsturen naar Camp 5.
• Indien je op de laatste dag van je Pinnacles avontuur weer wil vertrekken, dan is het niet mogelijk om de 1e vlucht vanuit Mulu te halen. Het is dan ook aan te raden om de 2e vlucht te nemen of om nog een extra nacht in Mulu te blijven om bij te komen.

Benodigdheden voor de tocht naar de Pinnacles:

• Essentieel om mee te nemen: lichtgewicht slaapzak of deken, eten (2x ontbijt, 2x lunch, 2x diner), stevige wandelschoenen, rubberen schoenen (voor het duwen van de boot), insectenspray, EHBO set, persoonlijke medicatie, toiletspullen, zaklamp met extra batterijen, regenjas, handdoek.
• Voor de klim: een kleine rugzak, snacks, lunch en 2 waterflessen (waarvan je er 1 halverwege zal achterlaten voor de terugweg).
• Optioneel: een klamboe, opblaasbaar kussen, sandalen voor de badkamer en handschoenen (i.v.m. de scherpe rotsen).
• Bij Camp 5 heb je de mogelijkheid om snacks en frisdranken te kopen, dus vergeet niet om wat contant geld mee te nemen.

Deze tocht dien je op voorhand te boeken en de minimale deelname is 3 personen. De minimale leeftijd voor deelname is 16 jaar.

MYR 415 / € 83 per persoon is inclusief: gids, 2 nachten accommodatie bij camp 5 en de retour per longboat.
MYR 135 / € 27 per drager inclusief entree, 2 nachten accommodatie (maximaal gewicht van 17,5kg).
MYR 30 / € 6 per persoon toeslag voor bezoek aan Cave of the Winds & de Clearwater Cave.

Wanneer er minder dan 3 deelnemers zijn, zal de prijs worden herberekend. Indien je op dat moment vanwege de eventuele prijsstijging de tocht wenst te annuleren, is dit kosteloos toegestaan. Check de voorwaarden hiervoor bij het Park Office.

Mulu Summit Walk
Afstand: 24 km / Duur: minimaal 4 dagen / 3 nachten.

Mocht je nog 4 dagen over hebben en in goede conditie zijn, dan kan je een tocht overwegen naar de top van Gunung Mulu. Een tocht van 24km naar de 2377m hoge top en waarvoor je minimaal 4 dagen en 3 nachten moet uittrekken. Het is dan ook de meest lastige activiteit die je kan ondernemen in Gunung Mulu National Park.

Je start de tocht vanaf het Park Office op 40 meter hoogte boven zeeniveau en klimt uiteindelijk naar 2377m. Onderweg zal je regelmatig worden getrakteerd op diverse uitzichten op het regenwoud .Gedurende de tocht zal je verblijven in Camp 1, 3 en 4. De hutten beschikken over sanitaire voorzieningen en faciliteiten om te koken. Gaspatronen voor gebruik van het gasfornuis kan je halen bij het Park Café.

Dagplanning:

• Dag 1: Na het ontbijt begint je tocht naar Camp 3. Een dag waarbij je 6-8 uur klimt.
• Dag 2: Dit is een korte dag waarbij je in ongeveer 4 uur naar Camp 4 loopt, om hier te overnachten.
• Dag 3: Na een vroeg ontbijt start je de klim naar de top, een tocht van 5-6 uur retour. Na de lunch start je aan de 4 uur durende afdaling naar Camp 3, om hier te overnachten.
• Dag 4: Een 6 uur durende wandeling brengt je rond 13.00-14.00u terug bij het hoofdkwartier van het park.

Benodigdheden voor de Summit Trail:

Je dient zelf zorg te dragen voor de benodigde spullen voor deze tocht. Denk hierbij aan voldoende eten en drinken, een regenjas, zaklamp, EHBO set, persoonlijke medicatie, slaapmat, slaapzak etc.

Houdt daarnaast rekening met het gewicht van je rugzak en neem alleen het hoognodige mee. Je kan eventueel ook overwegen om een drager in te huren, welke (een deel van) je spullen kan dragen tot een maximum van 15 kg.

Deze tocht dien je op voorhand te boeken. De minimale leeftijd voor deelname is 16 jaar.Minimale deelname is 3 personen / maximale deelname is 15 personen (inclusief gidsen en dragers).
