After you have arrived and picked up your rental car, you can choose to stay in Reykjavik for a few days, but of course you can also immediately hit the road to discover Iceland.
The Guesthouse Bitra is on a 1.5 hour drive from Keflavík International Airport and is located very central. On the way there you can catch some nice sights on the Reykjanes peninsula, such as the Bridge between continents, the geothermal field of Krýsuvík / Seltún and Kleifarvatn. And the next day you drive to the Kerið crater in less than 26 minutes. For many travelers the starting point of the Golden Circle.
It consists of 17 rooms, which are equipped with a private or shared bathroom and some even overlook the Hekla volcano. In the morning you can enjoy a delicious full breakfast with a number of homemade treats such as bread and jam. Yummie!
After a day of exploring the Golden Circle, you will propoably prefer not to drive too far anymore. Cafe Arhus Hella, a short 51km (41min) drive from the old explosion crater Kerið and 35km east of Selfoss, is the ideal place to spend the night. And another additional advantage is that you are a already a bit further on your way, when you continue your route the next day along the south coast of Iceland.
For example, the Seljalandsfoss and Gljúfrafoss, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland, are only a 30 minute drive away. The 4WD bus also departs from here to Þórsmörk National park, where you can take beautiful walks the next day.
At Cafe Arhus Hella you will stay in bungalows for 2-6 persons with a kitchen, fridge, and a private shower and toilet. Or at the campsite, with all the facilities you need during your stay.
There is also a restaurant where you can enjoy a good meal if you don’t feel like cooking (anymore). Use of wifi is free in public places, at the information center you can get more information about things to do and see in the area and you can barbecue on the barbecues. Are you traveling with children? Then they can spend their energy in the playground.
Icelandair is not only the national airline of Iceland. They also have an eponymous hotel chain with different hotels, which you can find all over the island.
For example, along the Ring Road and near the black beach of Reynisfjara is the Icelandair Hotel Vik, where you can look out over the rock formations of Reynisdrangar from the beach across the road from the hotel.
The hotel is stylishly furnished and the comfortable rooms are fully equipped. In the morning they serve an extensive breakfast buffet, in the evening you can have a drink in the bar or you can sit down in restaurant Berg for typical Icelandic dishes.
Definitely a lovely place to stay overnight on the south coast and near the Skógafoss waterfall, the Sólheimajökull glacier and Dyrhólaey.
After your travel day along lava fields, glaciers, waterfalls, gorges and the famous glacial lakes Fjallsárlón and Jökulsárlón along the south coast of Iceland, a convenient place to spend the night is near Höfn.

Eyjólfsstadir Guesthouse is located in eastern Iceland, just a 10-minute drive from Egilsstaðir and on the banks of the Lagarfljót River. Especially if you don’t want to drive too far after a long day of driving through the East Fjords, it is a lovely, quiet place to stay.
Nearby you will find the Hallormsstaður. The, with an area of 740 hectares, largest forest in Iceland where you can take beautiful hikes. Although, the walk is a tough one.
Spending the night at the nearby Eyjólfsstadir Guesthouse is ideal. The rooms (from one to four persons) are simple, but modernly furnished and have a shared bathroom. In the building you will also find several cosy seating areas where you can sit down on the couch and relax after your long drive.
